Weight Belt Positioning

Warning! Don’t Buy This Belt!

If you're serious about freediving or spearfishing, here’s why you should avoid this belt:

  1. Hard to Release in Emergencies
This belt can be difficult to unfasten quickly, which is dangerous in critical situations. Safety should always come first.

  2. Incorrect Positioning Affects Breathing
Wearing the belt too high restricts diaphragm breathing, making it harder to take full breaths. It should be positioned lower on the hips for better comfort and performance.

  3. Optimize Breath-Holding with Proper Gear
The belt should sit on your hips or hip bones. While it may feel strange at first, using a rubber belt with a metal clasp (avoid plastic!) ensures it stays in place. Even if it slides slightly, proper tension will prevent shifting.

  4. Belt Length Matters
The end of the belt shouldn’t extend more than 10cm (4 inches) past the buckle. A longer belt can make emergency releases difficult, which is the last thing you want when time is critical.

If you already own this belt, we strongly recommend replacing it.
It’s too risky to rely on, especially in pre-hypoxic conditions. Your safety is worth more than saving a few dollars. Choose a safer option and dive with confidence!
